COMMUNITY MESSENGERS

Community Messengers are civic-minded volunteers who provide resources, advocate for families, and identify unmet needs in order to co-design solutions to address community issues.

Community Messengers have long recognized that there's a huge gap between the wealth of community resources available and their neighbors' awareness of those resources. So they serve as "Trusted Voices" to link the two, providing information on topics like:

  • basic needs (jobs, food, emergency assistance)

  • schools and neighborhoods (school registration, daycare, school and recreational events)

  • health services (Husky, mental health services)

You'll also see them distributing books to kids at public events, and providing everyone with their famous "Community Messenger Hugs."

Importantly, Community Messengers are neighbors and friends who speak diverse languages and share the cultural values of those they serve. They range from professionals to parents, but all share a devotion to helping others. They've been serving Bridgeport for over 10 years.
